The government which has gone on a arresting spree of any contradictory voice was prepared for bloodshed. With Patrick Chinamasa a member of the ZanuPF politbro who is famous for officiating the opening of a dust bin having encouraged his party's youths to "use whatever means necessary to defend themselves" it was clear they were itching for arnachy to reign. The Zimbabweans stayed in their homes and a very successful lockdown of the nation was the result.Like a double edged sword the 31st of July also served to bring out the extent at which the Zanu PF government is prepared to use force against its people.Deploying soldiers and the police enmasse.

The few who went on to demonstrate peacefully by way of displaying placards while observing all Covid regulations were later picked up at their various places of residence by law enforcement agents. These included prominent figures like Tsitsi Dangarembga,Fadzai Mahere and Nigel Ndlovu.

The people celebrated the fact that they had managed to expose the government without allowing it feed on their blood as they had done in times past.Social media users who interacted with the writer on Facebook were in a celebratory mood.
