A SONG FOR BOSSO

As the popular saying goes "Ubuhle be Bosso ngaba landeli bayo"... Which is loosely translated to "The beauty of Bosso lies in its supporters" This assertion is as clear as day light, Highlanders enjoys a massive fan base in the country and abroad.

Since it's inception from the Ndebele royalty in 1926, Highlanders Football Club have made a great contribution to the development of football in Zimbabwe, producing exportable talent through out the years, Zimbabwe soccer legend Peter Ndlovu being the one that quickly comes to mind, they have conjured up a colossal fan base which has become the backbone of the Bulawayo based football club.

There is a relationship with musicians that the 1926 Ndebele royalty formation has enjoyed over the years, with Lovemore Majaivana and Zex Manatsa being the notable names as their songs always rumble around the City of Kings on match days and whenever there is a celebratory gathering amongst Bosso faithfuls.

A new generation of musicians is sprouting up and taking over from where the older generation left with D'lax and his latest single titled Vele Angizwa doing rounds amongst the Bosso faithfuls, bringing with it the nostalgic moments of Highlanders' home ground, Babourfields stadium, popularly known as Emagumeni. With Corona virus taking it's toll and enforcimg yet another lockdown, it is nearly a year since Highlanders played a competitive match at Emagumeni and D'lax's song reminds us of the the exuberant atmosphere that accompanies Amahlolanya as Highlanders is affectionately known.

Majaivana's songs have since become part of the Highlanders culture, and will undoubtedly be passed from generation to generation of Bosso faithfuls but D'lax's Vele Angizwa bridges that generational gap in praise songs for Highlanders a true reflection of continuity of  Zimbabwe's great football institution which is a few years from reaching a century of existence.

This song is a definite addition to the playlist on that Bosso fan fare and convoys to away matches outside their Bulawayo base. It has an appeal to all age groups as it was artistical and Intellectually weaved to accommodate all age groups.

The Highlanders Chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube, speaking at the late Calvin's funeral wake last year said Highlanders were  rolling out an initiative of having local artists providing entertainment at half time in their home games and we can only imagine the atmosphere and reception when D'lax finally gets the chance to mesmerize the multitudes of Highlanders fans who often throng Emagumeni.

When quizzed about his single and inspiration behind the song by Ekasi Magazine D'lax said "Music has in history contributed a lot in the club, we cannot ignore the artists who have made such historical contributions, the likes of Majaivana , Zex Manatsa. it brings me joy to know that my name is going to be mentioned along side the names of the great people who have contributed to the team"

The song is currently available only on YouTube and SoundCloud.
