A New Look RBAA's On The Cards

The organisers of the annual Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards have released a press statement that sought to notify the public that nominations and submissions are now open. The same statement also highlighted a number of changes and additions that have been made.

"As was hinted in our last communication on this year’s edition of the Roil Bulawayo Arts
Awards (RBAAs), there will be a slight change to some categories, with some additions and
alterations. This was a decision made in a bid to make the RBAAs all-inclusive, while
aiding the continued growth of the awards, which are now in their sixth year." reads part of the press release.

The changes were made after consultation with stakeholders on how the awards could be improved

There will be 41 awards set to be contested for, with the new categories added being, the Outstanding Screenplay, the
Outstanding Band, the Outstanding Visual Artist (2D) and Outstanding Visual Artist (3D).

"The Outstanding Band (Covers)
This category came about after organisers noted the role that had been played by cover
bands, especially during the peak of Covid-19 inspired lockdowns. From weddings to
corporate events, bands have become a regular feature of the city’s entertainment
landscape...Outstanding Screenplay
The Outstanding screenplay award seeks to honour those artistes behind the scenes who
pen some of the popular productions but rarely get recognition for their craft." the statement also stated.

Ekasi Magazine scooped the Outstanding Online Media award last year and are set to retain the gong after the sterling shift that has been put in this year.

The People's Choice award comes up as number 41 on the list and will certainly be eyed by many after the storm that greeted the announcement of last year's winner, gospel musician Amai Mwamuka.
