THE PANTSULA GRADUATE  PRESERVING THE KASI SPIRIT

The perfect Kasi Ambassador!  Everything about him just magnifies the beauty of Ekasi. It's not just in his name, his revival of Kwaito or acquaintance with the late great Luveve Boy. It's not enough that the BAAs also nominated him. In spite of the philosophy of a prophet having no honour in his land, the man  attained the crown within his community,in the Ntumbane Awards Merit. Mawiza is that man!

The Kwaito legend was born in Bulawayo as Wisdom Moyo on the 11th of November in 1991. As a high school student he joined both the Mpopoma school choir and the drama club.   After school, he joined a rap group known as the Top Fellaz.  Even when the group disbanded in 2015, Mawiza didn't stop. In fact it's at that moment that he established his solo career.

Mawiza

He joined CAL_VIN's  Label Kontrol Tribe in 2015 and left it three years later to pursue his independence.

The Kwaito king started off with his first EP 24 in 2015. He stepped up with Tjovo in 2017. The track featured Jungle Bwoi and it topped ZiFM's New Music list. His  2018
release Amangcono got massive air play across national radio stations and took the third position on Skyzmetro FM charts. Chipo Tsodzo ; the single he released later in the same year reigned for 7 weeks on the Skyzmetro FM top 20. In 2020 he released the EP Last Number. His latest June 2021 release is the Pantsula graduate.

Mawiza has  performed in Mkoba  stadium;  Food and Festival (Harare);  ZKPH in your city tour; Skyzmetro FM awards; European Film Festival; and the last year's MTV Shuga ZimTour.

In 2019 and 2020; he's been nominated in the BAAs for the Outstanding Kwaito/House/Gqom Act.  He got the best Kwaito  Record and best Outstanding Hip-hop Act  in the Ntumbane Awards Merit.

Despite all this achievement;  Mawiza says the best moment of his career was the national tour he did with CAL_VIN.  The tour covered Harare; Gweru, VicFalls; Hwange; Plumtree and Gwanda. It was overwhelming to see the people outside Bulawayo singing along to his music. It made him see how much his music was appreciated.
Mawiza, unlike many artists is keen on grooming young talent so that Kwaito would live on. He's even taking lessons on mixing and mastering so that he could prepare beats for the young talent. He even intends to retire at some point in his life. What a pure sign of selflessness!

'Keep on keeping on. Ungapheli moya nomatter what. If it feels right go for it. Always remember the vitality of knowing the business side of music as an artist.' With those words, Mawiza  called it a day.
